Judith Knight
BSc (Hons), Cert CC Relate, Reg. Member BACP, EMDR Trained, Cert. Practitioner in Therapeutic Play Skills, Diploma in Clinical Supervision, & Trainer
After obtaining my degree in Psychology I trained with Relate, both as a Relationship Counsellor and later as a Psychosexual Therapist. This initial person-centred and psychodynamic training began my journey as a counsellor, working with relationship issues for both couples and individual clients since 1992.
Over the years I have accumulated skills and experience, which alongside my degree, have informed and developed my practice as a psychotherapist, using therapeutic models and interventions as appropriate for each client to improve their sense of wellbeing.
In addition, I have received extensive training in EMDR, an approach recognized as an effective treatment for trauma by various professional organizations and governmental agencies internationally, including the National Institute for Clinical Excellence in the UK.
EMDR has evolved into a comprehensive psychotherapy approach, enabling the treatment of issues such as phobias, anxiety-based problems, PTSD, pain, and general health issues. I am also qualified in Group Work Consultation, Therapeutic Play Skills, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.
My varied skills enable therapeutic work from a holistic perspective, where emotional difficulties can present as a physical problem. I have worked in Primary Care for the NHS, and also in the Dept. of Sexual Health Services, as well as for Cheshire Relate and Warrington Women’s Aid.
I have also worked for many years with children, young people and families who have experienced trauma and attachment difficulties.
As a qualified clinical supervisor, my areas of interest and expertise also include training and development.
